Ages 7 to 9

Little Léonie has just moved into a new neighbourhood and hasn't made any friends yet. Her father leaves her with Mamie Giroflée, her new Creole-speaking babysitter. After they put up the Christmas decorations together, Léonie goes outside to play. While building a snowman she meets Kim, of Chinese descent, Nicolina, from Italy and Raphaël, originally from Haiti.

The themes of multi-ethnicity and being open to new experiences are explored by the writer with tenderness and finesse. The small colour illustrations complement the text. A winning combination!
