Gould used this Canadian passport, issued on March 6, 1962 and valid for "all countries", during his career as a touring concert pianist. View a selection of pages in HTML format. Gould's European debut was made in the Soviet Union in Moscow in May 1957. He was the first North American pianist, and the first Canadian musician, to appear in the Soviet Union after the end of World War II.
Program for a recital in Leningrad, May 14,1957. Gould played The Art of Fugue, Nos. 1, 2, 4, 8, all in D Minor and Partita No. 6 in E Minor by Bach, Beethoven's Piano Sonata in E Major, Op. 109, and Berg's Piano Sonata, Op. 1
Note given to Gould during a concert in Russia, May 1957, reading: "Dear Sir, We implore you to play some Bach without the orchestra. Many of us had no opportunity of attending your concert on the 16th and had been waiting in the street for a long time & all in vain! Your Russian admirers"

Program for recital in the Konzertsaal der Hochschule für Musik, Berlin, May 16, 1959. Gould played works by Bach, Mozart, Schoenberg and Sweelinck. This concert was rescheduled from October 24, 1958.
