Proclamation extending a pardon to the participants in the 1870 rebellion
1880

This official proclamation, issued on parchment under the Great Seal of Canada, extended a pardon to all participants in the 1870 rebellion, except Louis Riel. In February 1875, Riel was also given amnesty on condition of a five-year banishment from "Her Majesty's dominions." Three years later, Riel moved to the United States and became an American citizen.
