JANET WILSON

Place of birth: Toronto, Ontario
Place of residence: Toronto, Ontario

Toronto-born illustrator Janet Wilson decided at age 29, after her boys were off to school, that she wanted to become a professional artist. She enrolled at the Ontario College of Art where she worked hard and was rewarded by an offer from Scholastic to do her first picture book. She hadn't thought about doing picture books and found her first assignment with the requisite 32 illustrations more challenging than she expected. She has learned to "listen" to the stories she is working on to ensure that her interpretation is on track. With many picture books to her credit she is recognized for her realistic paintings which capture the feelings and mood of the characters and situations in the stories she is illustrating.
