Alain Reno

Born in Gatineau (Hull), Quebec, Alain Reno presently lives in Montréal. Since his childhood, he has had a passion for drawing. He is a graduate of the graphic design program at the University of Quebec at Montréal. A socially conscious artist, he divides his time between illustration and graphic design. Since 1987, he has illustrated and written more than a dozen children's books. The book Comment l'ours blanc perdit sa queue, written by Jacques Pasquet, was a finalist for the 2004 Governor General's Literary Awards in the illustration category. Alain Reno is a very talented illustrator whose modern style is inspired from cubism and technically daring contemporary collage.

Ted Harrison

Edward Hardy (Ted) Harrison was born August 28, 1926, in England. As a young boy, he was interested in art and his parents encouraged him to pursue his passion. He studied at the West Hartlepool College of Art in England, but his education was interrupted by the Second World War. He eventually graduated with a Diploma of Design and a teaching certificate in 1951. He taught in England, New Zealand and in Malaysia before he settled in the Yukon in 1967. Since 1979 he paints full time and since 1993 he has lived in Victoria, British Columbia.

Ted Harrison's works shows his love of the land and the people of the Yukon. He uses bold and contrasting colours yet his style is naïve and stylistic. He is internationally recognized for his paintings and for his illustrations in children's books. He was made a Member of the Order of Canada in 1987. His illustrations were shown at the International Children's Book Exhibition in Bologna, Italy; at the Bratislava Illustrations Biennale in Slovakia and the National Library of Canada, now Library and Archives Canada, for the exhibition The Secret Self in 1988. He has won numerous literary awards including a certificate of honour from IBBY (International Board on Books for Young People) and the Notable Children's Books of the American Library Association.
