Dept. of the Interior, RG 15, Series D II 8k, Powers of Attorney, 1876-1930, 0.6 m, vols. 1421 to 1423.
Métis claimants who applied for Letters Patent on lands awarded under section 31 of the Manitoba Act (33 Vic., chapter 3) were required to assign Power of Attorney to a member of the legal profession or a financial institution. The attorneys were then to assist the claimant in obtaining their Letters Patent from the Crown. Although some signed Powers of Attorney may be filed with the claimant's affidavit in RG 15, series D II 2 (described elsewhere), departmentaln administrators kept most of the forms separate from other records pertaining to an individual's application. The signed Powers of Attorney are now retained by Library and Archives Canada in this series. The records are arranged alphabetically, and finding aid FA 15-27 serves as an index to the series.
