Portée et contenu
The NMC holds five manuscript copies of this map, which depict the theatre of military operations during the Siege of Quebec in 1759. A text accompanying the map describes the military positions of the opposing forces. The British works are coloured yellow and their encampments red. The French works and encampments are coloured blue. The stamp B.O. (Board of Ordnance) appears on each copy. A note under "References" explains that Captains Debbieg and Holland and Lieutenant Des Barres were each involved with a part of the survey for the map. There are significant differences among the various copies. One copy is signed "...copied by F. Gould...1777". One copy has no neat lines and the map extends to the edge of the sheets. Nevertheless, the maps are clearly of the same origin. This map is one of the more famous descriptions of the events at Quebec in 1759 and has been reproduced in various forms many times.
