Portée et contenu
Title refers to a cabin occupied by Mary Louisa Lambton. The subject is an interior scene depicting a ship's cabin appointed with two raised platforms furnished with cushions and coverings of a variety of patterns and colours. A berth is suspended by ropes in a fan-shaped arrangement from a hook in the deckhead. A pair of curtains are swagged on either side of a sexpartite-light window behind one of the fixed platforms. A third curtain is fastened to a rail. A rectangular mat and a vessel with a handle and a lid lie on the deck of the cabin. In the tradition of English watercolour painting, interior scenes are rare in this period.
