Manoir Richelieu Collection of North American Indians. Wainwright, Nicholas B., Philadelphia in the Romantic Age of Lithography. The Historical Society of Pennsylvania. Philadelphia, 1958, pp. 33, 50, 58.
Many of the Coverdale numbers from 1 to 127 in the Manoir Richelieu Collection of North American Indians were part of a three-volume folio series, sponsored by Colonal McKenney and Judge James Hall, entitled "History of the Indian Tribes of North America.
In 1835, a specimen number were produced by the lithographers Lehman and Duval in Philadelphia. In late 1837 Lehman and Duval lost their contract to J.T. Bowen, who was to complete Volume I. Although Volume I was probably not completed until 1838, it usually bears the date of its first part, 1836.
The twentieth and last number of the three volumes was published in 1844. McKenney and Hall's Indians came out again in an octavo edition of three volumes in 1842-1844, and was re-issued by Bowen in 1848-1850.
This print depicts Ahyouwaighs who was also known as John Brant.
