Biographie / Histoire administrative
The Canadian Army Veterinary Corps was responsible for the supply and maintenance of veterinary personnel both in England and in France and for the health and care of all animals employed by Canadian units in France. The Canadian Army Veterinary Corps provided each division in France with a mobile veterinary section. In addition, there was a veterinary hospital and a veterinary evacuating station in France to care for approximately 24,000 horses. There was also a veterinary hospital at Shorncliffe, but most of the sick animals were evacuated to Imperial veterinary hospitals. Mobile veterinary sections provided first aid treatment for sick and wounded animals and the veterinary evacuating station served as a casualty clearing station through which the animals were evacuated to the Base for treatment.
