Historique de la conservation
Sub-series of photographs from photo accession 1936-271 previously acquired and managed by one branch of the Department of the Interior, the Natural Resources Intelligence Service ca. 1916-1930. The branch operated as a central agency with the purpose of classifying and disseminating documentation concerning Canada's natural resources and industry development. This organization was renamed the National Development Bureau in 1930, continuing to maintain and update a comprehensive photograph and lantern slide library containing views of Canada's geography, development and tourism. Upon the closure of the Department of the Interior in 1933, the Development Bureau's collections were transferred to other government agencies including the Department of Mines and Resources, Department of Trade and Commerce and the Tourist Board. This sub-series of photographs was transferred to the National Archives in 1936. Duplicates and some loose prints have been segregated from the acquired collection.
