Historique de la conservation
Sub-series of photographs from photo accession 1936-271 previously acquired and managed by one branch of the Department of the Interior, the Natural Resources Intelligence Branch ca. 1917-1922. In 1922 the name was changed to the Natural Resources Intelligence Service. The branch operated as a central agency with the purpose of classifying and disseminating documentation concerning Canada's natural resources and industry development. This organization was renamed the National Development Bureau in 1929, continuing to maintain and update a comprehensive photograph and lantern slide library containing views of Canada's geography, development and tourism. Upon the closure of the National Development Bureau in 1933, the collections were transferred to other agencies operating within the Department in addition to external federal agencies including the Department of Mines and Resources, Department of Trade and Commerce and the Tourism Board. This sub-series of photographs was transferred to the National Archives in 1936. Duplicates and some loose prints have been segregated from the acquired collection.
