Biographie / Histoire administrative

The Economic Analysis and Forecasting Division tracks, evaluates and forecasts Canada's economic performance. Within the division, activity is undertaken by two groups. The Economic Analysis group provides continuous assessment of current economic conditions. As part of its economic monitoring, the group conducts regular consultations with the private sector across the country. In co-operation with the forecasting group, analysts in the Economic Analysis group provide sector-specific information for the department's Canadian economic forecast. A key output of this group is the quarterly Economy in Brief which provides a departmental view of recent economic developments. The Forecasting and Model Development group prepares the department's quarterly economic forecast and maintains close contacts with leading private-sector forecasters as well as provincial governments. In addition, the group prepares a quarterly economic and fiscal forecast of the U.S. and other Group of Seven (G-7) economies and closely monitors economic and policy developments in the U.S. The group is responsible for the development and integrity of the department's quarterly macroeconomic forecasting and policy analysis models of Canada (CEFM) and the U.S. (USFM). The models are used to evaluate the macroeconomic and fiscal impact of economic events and policy options. This division is a part of the Economic and Fiscal Policy Branch.
