Biographie / Histoire administrative

Following the creation of the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development in 1966, agencies were joined to form larger administrative units called districts. The Kootenay-Okanagan Agency became Kootenay-Okanagan District in 1969 and was located in Vernon, BC. The office was responsible for: Columbia Lake, Lower Kootenay, Lower Similkameen, Okanagan, Osoyoos, Penticton, St. Mary's, Shuswap, Spallumcheen, Tobacco Plains, Upper Similkameen, and Westbank. Kootenay-Okanangan District merged with the Thompson River District in 1976 to form the Central Interior District office. Finding aid 10-202: Guide to Indian Bands and Agencies in British Columbia
