Biographie / Histoire administrative

The Margie Gillis Dance Foundation was established in Montreal, Qc on January 29, 1981. Its mission is to encourage, protect and promote the artistic vision of internationally renowned Canadian dancer and choreographer Margie Gillis (born in Montreal, Qué, July 9, 1953). The Foundation supports and assists Gillis (its current artistic director) in: creating and choreographing works that reflect her humanistic artistic vision; dancing in cultural events that harmonize with the artistic vision; collaborating with other dancers, choreographers and artists; as well as teaching and mentoring professionals and non-professionals interested in dance and widening their artistic horizons. The Foundation's motto: "To manifest in dance a personal vision of human condition, to have compassion for our weaknesses and vulnerability, to celebrate and encourage our capacity for hope, creation, wisdom, our power for healing, inspiration, truth and generosity". Since 1981, The Margie Gillis Dance Foundation has produced approximately 200 choreographic works in Canada and across the world.
