Additional information

Geological Survey mining photographs of northern Ontario. Large format prints, approximately 11 x 14, generally laid on card mounts on which letterpress (or very carefully handwritten copperplate) information has been inscribed, including the Department's directors' and photographers' names, and some information about the image, including mine names and the minerals involved..

The identified prints are all by Horatio Nelson Topley, and include: "Shaft, Engine House, etc. at the Copper Cliff Mines, Sudbury, Ont., 1890"; "Roasting the Ore, Copper Cliff Mine, Sudbury, Ont., 1890"; "Roast Shed & Roast Heaps, Murray Mine, Sudbury, Ont., 1890"; General view, Murray Mine, 1890"; "Main Shop, Copper Cliff Mine, Sudbury, Ont., 1890"; "General view, Murray Mine, Sudbury, Ont., 1890". There is also a print of the Blue Bell Mine, West Kootenay, B.C., by Steele & Co., Winnipeg, c 1890..

Some of the same images, and others probably from the same series, are found in Acc. No. 1970-088, box 5124, and in an album entitled Ontario and Quebec Mining, box 2095..
