Additional information

Doukhobor land rush at Yorkton, Sask.. This rush for homesteads occurred when the Doukhobors refused, based on their objection to taking an oath of allegiance, to register the homesteads they occupied. In June of 1907, the Dominion government confiscated the land of any Doukhobor who still refused to register. This left the land available to be homesteaded by others. The photos in this collection document the ensuing rush to apply for this land. They also illustrate the attempts made by the North West Mounted Police to maintain order and the development of the town of Yorkton in 1907. The photographs are well captioned..
