Cartographic math data
Dr. James Hector was a geologist and explorer with the Pallisr Expedition between 1857-1860. He later immigrated to New Zealand. He was on tour of the West with his son when his son died suddenly. The idea of the monument was to honour his role in the Pallser Expedition.
