"Indian Land Sale Grant to Edward J. Smith, of the Village of Cockburn Island, in the District of Manitoulin, in the Province of Ontario, in Our Dominion of Canada, Merchant, is the Assignee of James Butchard, who is the original purchaser".

"Containing by measurement One Hundred acres the same more or less. Composed of Lot number Forty-ne, in the Seventh Concession in the afore said Township of Cockburn Island".

"Recorded in the Department of Indian Affairs the 18th December 1923, Liber 52, Folio 218 (Registrar of Indian Lands Patents)".

Document states that the land was originally set asside for the use of the Ojibewa and Ottaw Indians of Manitoulin Inland.
