Scope and content
Volume 3 is a red cloth-bound album with a burgundy leather spine and corner accents. "The Gift of C. Berkeley Powell" is inscribed in gold leaf on the bottom of front cover, and "Powell Scrap-Book III" is engraved on the spine. The scrapbook consists of 50 sheets of light cardstock, and a back section that contains 13 sheets of lined paper. All pages are numbered. The first endpaper had become unbound, and the tissue paper throughout the album has become extremely brittle. Items in this album are are not arranged chronologically. The album is mostly pictorial, and includes items between from the Dominion Illustrated (predominantly, from ca.1890-1905) as well as the Canadian Military Gazette. This volume contains several themes: 1) Old forts, ruins and historic buildings, 2) Readiness and training of the Western militia, North West Mounted Police, Soldiers at Skeena, BC, 3) General militia readiness and training, including marksmanship competitions (the Bisley Teams for 1894 and 1895), Naval training, soldiers on parade, in formation, etc., 4) Uniforms, accoutrements, munitions, 5) Commanding officers. A detailed list of the contents follows: Pamphlet titled "The Royal Line of Scotland" explaining the lineage of the Royal Family.
