Scope and content

This map shows the area of present day North and South America. The northern outline for Australia also appears. This version of the map includes the Solomon Islands and terra del Fuego.

This plate was reworked about 1575. Island to east of Newfoundland was "ya de area" on earlier states; now "ya de arca." Also earlier states had no stippling around place names - this reworked version has stippling throughout in water areas

Illustrated with sailing ships, sea monsters and decorative title cartouche in bottom left corner.
