Scope and content

Repeats his concern to see the trial proceedings for the Fenian prisoners. Enclosed: copies of letter from D. Thurston, American Consul at Toronto, to William Seward (Toronto, 15 November 1866), reports his efforts to obtain copies of the trial proceedings for the Fenian Prisoners; letter "No. 1" from D. Thurson to John A. Macdonald, Attorney General for the Province of Canada (Toronto, 1 November 1866), requests copies of the trial proceedings for the Fenian prisoners Lynch and McMahon (American citizens), from the Fort Erie raid, and for other prisoners; letter "No. 2" from Hewitt Bernard to D. Thurson (Ottawa, 3 November 1866), reports that his request for the trial proceedings has been passed to John McNab, County Attorney at Toronto; letter "No. 3" from D. Thurston to John McNab (Toronto, 12 November 1866), requests speedy delivery of the trial proceedings, as promised by the Attorney General; letter "No. 4" from John McNab to D. Thurston (Toronto, 13 November 1866), reports that copies of the trial proceedings were sent to Ottawa and should have been forwarded to Washington; letter "No. 5" from D. Thurston to John McNab (Toronto, 14 November 1866), repeats his request for the trial proceedings, noting that the copies were to have been delivered to him for transmission to Washington; letter "No. 6" from John McNab to D. Thurston (Toronto, 16 November 1866), reports that he is not authorized to provide copies from the judge's books, and letter from D. Thurston to John McNab (Toronto, 15 November 1866), responds that Hewitt Bernard had advised him of instructions being sent to McNab to provide the desired copies of trial proceedings and his future intentions.
