Scope and content

The title refers to the Hudson River. A riverscape / marine scene depicting at the right a view of land rising sharply from the shoreline of the Hudson River where it flows through a mountainous region. The centre of the composition is dominated by rocky island past which several masted vessels have sailed into the distance where a mountain forms the background.
