Scope and content
The title refers to the Hudson River. A riverscape / marine scene depicting a view of two masted sailing vessels in a mountainous region along the Hudson River where the land rises sharply from the shoreline. The vessel at the left edge of the composition has two masts with fore and aft rigging and its sails unfurled. The vessel located further towards the background has two masts with its sails furled. A dark rocky land mass contrasts with the lighter colours of the surrounding cliffs along the shore.
