Scope and content
A landscape / marine scene depicting a view of the [Atlantic Ocean] from a high point of land at Rockaway. The land is occupied by several two-storey buildings and is divided by picket fences. The sparse vegetation consists of a few bushes. Of the two buildings at the left, the one nearest the viewer has a gable roof with a chimney at each end of the roof apex and a porch with a shed roof. The building behind it has a [hipped] roof with a chimney at the center of the apex and a gallery with a railing around the eaves. The first building at the right has a gable roof with a central chimney at the apex and a porch with a shed roof. The second building from the right, the largest of the structures, has a hipped roof with three chimneys located at one end of the roof apex, at the middle of a hip and at the end of a hip at the eaves. The attached building at the far right has a chimney on the gable roof face centering on the eaves. The buildings appear to have casement windows. At the edge of the elevation in the direction of the Ocean, several rooftops are seen indicating a lower level. In the distance, masted vessels sail in the water.
