Scope and content
A landscape depicting a view of a female child, probably Elma Bruce, seated in an elevated grassy wooded area overlooking the Bridal Veil Falls and part of the American Falls of the Niagara River. The figure, depicted in profile, is wearing a blue dress with a blue cape reaching the elbows. She is wearing a hat with a broad brim and a low crown. A blue ribbon is tied around the base of the crown at the back. The elevated view of the Falls includes Luna Island and a bridge linking Luna Island to Goat Island. Beyond the Falls in the background are wooded islands in the Niagara River. At the top left of the work the water rushes towards the Falls. In the background is the American shore of the river. The composition of the river and the falls is framed on the left and right by trees with their branches naturalistically curved around the scene. The artist has depicted the foreground vegetation in some detail.
