1 drawing: pencil and white highlights on blue wove paper; 13.2x17.4 cm (image); 27x36 cm (folio)

Scope and content

A landscape depicting a partial view of the Horseshoe Falls, Terrapin Tower and the western end of Goat Island at the brink of the Falls from the Canadian shore of the Niagara River. The Tower is circular with a circular balcony surrounded by a railing near the top and has a conical roof with a finial. A flag flies from a pole on the balcony. The enclosed inclined structure extending from Goat Island to the gorge below may be the artist's interpretation of the enclosed Biddle Stairs. There is a suggestion of viewing portals at the upper end. The roofed building above may be the covered entrance to the stairs. In the foreground is a tree and other vegetation which has been shown in some detail. In the background is the wooded vegetation along the Canadian shore.
