Scope and content
A marine scene depicting a view of the St. Lawrence River off Île d'Orléans. At the left of the work are buildings and vegetation on the Island. Extending into the River is a row of stakes to support for fishing nets. Close to the shore is a manned ship's boat flying a white ensign with a St. George's cross. Of the several figures seated in the boat, all but one are wearing red garments. Three other vessels, masted and unmasted, are further out in the River. The light of the full moon which is low on the horizon is reflected on the water. In the distance is the shore of the mainland which is dotted with buildings.
