Scope and content
A marine scene / landscape depicting a view of the St. Lawrence River towards Île d'Orléans and the mountains on the River's north shore from [a carding mill] on a plateau at Beaumont on the south shore of the River. The dominant feature at the right of the work is a cove bordered by a rise of land covered in vegetation. In the river are two fore and aft rigged sailing vessels. The artist has suggested buildings following the island's shoreline.
