Scope and content
The title refers to the St. Lawrence River. A marine scene depicting a view of Île d'Orléans and the St. Lawrence River from the south shore at Beaumont. The land forms to the left and right of the work are part of one of the coves at Beaumont. Several masted sailing vessels sail close to the entrance of the cove beyond which is Ïle d'Orléans in the distance. In the foreground at the right the artist has depicted the vegetation in some detail; plants with lanceolate leaves and clustered red flowers.
