Scope and content
The title refers to Orleans Island. A marine scene depicting a view of Île d'Orléans from the St. Lawrence River near the south shore at Beaumont. In the foreground at the left is a single-masted fore and aft rigged sailing vessel anchored in the water with its sail collapsed. A figure wearing a broad-brimmed hat and a red garment sits in the centre of the vessel looking down at an unidentified rectangular object. A second figure sits in the bow where the vessel is anchored. At the left a two-masted fore and aft rigged sailing vessel sails towards the Island. Three masted vessels are seen in the distance.
