Scope and content
A riverscape depicting a view of buildings at Chambly along the Richelieu River from the shore of the Chambly Basin. Dominating the composition is Fort Chambly at the the foot of the Chambly rapids. The Vauban-style structure has three visible bastions with openings and two visible connecting walls, one of which is pierced. At the far right of the work is the spire of the Church of Saint-Joseph-de-Chambly. In the foreground at the left is a monument surrounded by a square wrought iron fence with rounded finials on two visible cornerposts. Two unidentified objects are hanging from the fence which is flanked by two conifer trees. The monument consists of a plain square column with mouldings at the bottom. It is mounted on a square base decorated on the side facing the viewer with a moulded frame. Above the column is a square moulded capital surmounted by a globus cruciger.
