Scope and content
A marine scene depicting a view of a filled lock chamber from behind the rail and rail netting of a vessel behind a closed upper lock gate. The lower gate at the far end of the chamber is closed and there is the suggestion of the mast of another vessel below in the next chamber. Beyond the locks is a body of water and land masses on the far shore in the background. Two sailing vessels with masts sail on the water in front of the landmass at the left. There are buildings and vegetation on either side of the lock channel.
