Scope and content

A marine scene depicting a view of the harbour at Portsmouth. Three dark figures on the shore stand in front of Square Tower and a figure wearing a red garment stands in front of Round Tower. At the left of the work, are two three-masted, square-rigged vessels with their sails furled. Two men wearing hats sit in a small sloop with sails unfurled. At the right is a partial view of a single-masted vessel with its sails collapsed.
