a landscape / marine scene depicting a view of theThames River at Richmond. Three figures stand at a fence at the River's edge observing an unmasted vessel with three seated figures in the water. In the foreground are buildings and trees and beyond a flat area on the other side of the River is a wooded area. The branches of a tree at the left extend across the sky and the wooded area to the centre of the work. The scene is viewed from a high point.
