A marine scene depicting a view of a spar attached to a mast and supporting a sail onboard HMS INCONSTANT. Coils of line on the deck are belayed on belaying pins mounted on the mast. At the right of the mast is a ratline. Two of the three unidentified objects on the deck to the left of the mast may be a cylindrical container with a cone shaped basketry lid with a ball finial and a rope tension drum. The third object is of a rectangular box shape with the suggestion of vents on one side.
