Scope and content
A rapid sketch of a genre scene / marine scene depicting a view towards the bow of HMS INCONSTANT. The composition is dominated by a mast with rigging and square-rigged sails set to the mast from a yard. At the left is a partial view of a ship's boat on the deck. Extending from the bow is the bowsprit. There are several figures standing on deck with their backs to the viewer. All are wearing broad-brimmed hats with flat crowns.
