Scope and content
The subject is a townscape / marine scene depicting buildings at Lower Town and masted vessels at the shoreline of the St. Lawrence River viewed from near the Château Haldimand. At the centre of the work is a lintel with a cut stone wall to the left. Through this opening is seen in the middle ground a wooden picket stockade fence bordering a grassy area. Beyond the fence are roofs and chimneys of buildings in Lower Town and ships' masts at the shoreline. In the distance, three-masted vessels near the opposing shore.
