Scope and content
The title refers to the Tegelbruket Lock on the Göta Canal. The subject is a genre scene / landscape depicting two female figures wearing a regional costume from Östergötland. The figure at the left is holding the hand of a female child standing in front of her while placing her other hand on the child's shoulder. The child is wearing a high-waisted dress with puffed sleeves above the elbow and an unsupported skirt reaching just above the ankles and pantelettes. At the foreground, the figures are standing before the edge of the lock chamber which is constructed of cut stone blocks. Behind the figures is a house with a simple gable tile roof and quadruple-light windows with shutters. Behind the house are fences and surrounding vegetation.
