Scope and content
This sub-series brings together presentation copies of two lithographic works dedicated to and produced under the patronage of Lord Elgin; a caricature and a silhouette-style group portrait; a diagram of a sleigh and a drawing for an ornamental dagger sheath. The publisher (R & C Chalmers of Montreal) and date of production for the set of 4 lithographs entitled "Scenes in Canada ..." after paintings by C. Krieghoff appear on an accompanying title page. The lithographed "View of the Interior of the Canadian Division at the Great Exhibition of 1851" by Alfred Perry has been hand-colored. The anonymous silhouette-style drawing of Lord and Lady Elgin and family member on a sleigh ride and the caricature of Louis-Hippolyte Lafontaine and William Lyon Mackenzie by Lord Mark Kerr, an ADC to the governor, exemplify mementos accumulated by Lord Elgin, as do the diagram of a sleigh and drawings for a dagger sheath.
