Scope and content
This series consists of all photographs that deal with the National Ballet of Canada. This includes images of company members during photo calls, dress rehearsals and performances. This series is comprised of scrapbooks filled with prints and contact sheets of company members in costume for several ballets, including: the Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Coppelia, Giselle, and La Slyphide etc. In addition, the series contains photographs arranged by docket numbers of several different dress rehearsals and performances for a variety of ballets, publicity photo shoots, photographs of costume sketches, stage sets, orchestra etc. Some notable figures within this collection are Celia Franca (founder of the National Ballet of Canada), Lois Smith, Karen Kain, Betty Pope, and Rudolph Nureyev. This series includes exhibition prints which Ken Bell used for photographic competitions and/or exhibition purposes and booklets about the National Ballet.
