Scope and content

Map shows new discoveries such as the connection of North and South America. North America bears the inscription "Terra del laboratore" while South America has "Mondo Nova", Map also shows the separation of North America from Asia and the spuriousness of an Arctic archipego while no land mass is present for Antarctic.

Additional information

Prior to the discovery of Francesco Rosselli's 1508 world map, this map by Bordone was considered the first drawn on an oval projection.

Several of the islands appearing on the map contain numbers which refer the user to other maps in the atlas.

Two lines of text appear along bottom of sheet. On verso: right hand side includes text with DD appearing at end of text.
