Additional information

This print is after the famous painting by Robert Harris, done after the event, showing the Fathers of Confederation meeting in Quebec in 1864. The painting was destroyed in the Parliament Buildings fire of 1916, but reproductions were widely disseminated in the late 19th century, and large-scale replicas were painted in the 1930s by J. D. Kelly, and later, by Rex Woods.

One of the Fathers of Confederation in this picture, William Henry Steeves (1814-1873) is often mistakenly referred to as William Henry Stevens.

Described by the RECON project.
