Scope and content

View of the countryside around Pau from Place Royale, including what might be train tracks. Pau is the capital city of the province of Pyrénées-Atlantiques in France. Lady Falkland was in France from 1839-40, according to the dates on the identifiable French watercolours (1990-207-79X, -80X, -82X, and -83X). This was just before she went to Nova Scotia, where her husband was governor from 1840-46.
See 1990-207-48X or -49X about Mrs. Wyatt, possibly a companion of Falkland's on her French trip.
