Scope and content

Watercolour of an old beggar sitting on the ground. Pau is the capital city of the province of Pyrénées-Atlantiques in France. According to dates on the French watercolours (1990-207-79X, -80X, -82X, and -83X) Falkland was in France during 1839-40, just before she went to Nova Scotia.
See 1990-207-48X or -49X about Mrs. Wyatt, possibly a companion of Falkland's on her French trip.
There is an unfinished pencil sketch copy of a Holbein portrait drawing on the reverse of this watercolour.
