South American Fruit Tree (Anorea Cherinolia?)

ca. 1803-1858

Place of creation

No place, unknown, or undetermined

1 watercolour / aquarelle : watercolour over pencil on wove paper
Support: 12.800 x 25.000 cm
Image: 9.500 x 20.500 cm

Scope and content

Watercolour study of the fruit and leaves of a South American fruit tree, identified by its latin name. The vibrancy of the colour suggests that the artist is not Lady Falkland. She did take an interest in botanical studies; a watercolour of the Dendrobium is in the album (1990-207-19), and she mentions the flora of all the areas she visits in her book Chow-Chow.
(Chow-Chow. London: Hurst and Blackett, 1857.)
