Scope and content

Portrait of a woman, left profile, attributed to Lady Falkland. The awkwardness of the head when compared with Lady Falkland's signed copies suggests that this drawing is from life. Comparisons with fashion plates suggests a date during the late 1830's and 1840's for the headgear.
During the time period suggested, Falkland was in England, Continental Europe, Nova Scotia (1840-46), the Middle East and India (1848-54).
