Scope and content
Watercolour of two villages on a lake, below a mountain range. The location is similar to 1990-207-24X and -47X. It is attributed to Lady Falkland because of the similarity between the watercolour technique of this work and others signed by her in this album.
The inscriptions on the secondary support refer to a previous image, now removed. According to the glue spots left behind, the support was grey tinted wove paper, mounted sideways, with dimensions of approximately 23 x 20cm. The image has not been identified; it may no longer be in the collection.
For more information on Pau, see 1990-207-80X.
The present work belongs to a group of unsigned watercolours over pencil on grey tinted paper, including 1990-207-24X, -28X, -29X, -37X, -44X, -47X, -48X, -53X, and -100X. The subject matter is usually a European landscape with a village.
They might be from the same trip. Several are attributed to Lady Falkland, and others of similar composition are probably executed by a second artist. This suggests a working relationship with another artist, either professional or amateur (social).
