An image of Tina, (Miss Eglantine Balfour), Katherine Jane Ellice's sister, shown from the right side in profile, reading in her cot by candlelight on board the H.M.S. "Hastings." Tina was part of Lord Durham's suite, which accompanied the Governor General of British North America to Canada in 1838. Mrs. Ellice wrote in her diary about sketching her sister on several occasions in May 1838 while on the "Hastings."
Watercolour removed from album. This work was originally glued to a secondary support. The album page, folio 11, was cut to frame the image that was glued to its verso. Original secondary support and mount attached separately.
