Scope and content
Three sailors on board the H.M.S. "Hastings," two shown from the back, one shown in profile making rope. Katherine Jane Ellice came to Canada in 1838 with her husband, Edward Ellice Jr. when he was secretary to Lord Durham during his term as Governor General of Canada in 1838. Lord Durham's suite left Portsmouth, England on April 24 on board the H.M.S. "Hastings," and arrived at Quebec on May 27, 1838.
Watercolour removed from album. This watercolour was originally glued to a secondary support. The album page, folio 4, was cut to frame the image that was glued to the verso. Original mount attached separately.
